F102

Miele Oven Error Code F102 — Door Lock Fault (Self-Clean)

Advanced Repair 30–60 minutes Tools: Screwdriver set, Multimeter

What this means

Error F102 on Miele ovens with pyrolytic self-cleaning indicates the door lock mechanism has a fault. During self-clean, the oven heats to extremely high temperatures (up to 500°C/930°F), so the door must be securely locked. If the lock motor cannot engage or the lock position sensor does not confirm locking, F102 is displayed and self-clean is aborted. Normal cooking is usually still possible.

Alternate codes: F 102

Step-by-step fix

4 steps
1

Cancel and reset

If the oven is in self-clean mode and shows F102, cancel the self-clean cycle and turn off the oven. Wait 30 minutes for the oven to cool. Then try engaging self-clean again.

If F102 only appears during self-clean but the oven works normally for cooking, the issue is isolated to the lock mechanism.

2

Listen for the lock motor

When you initiate self-clean, listen at the top of the oven door. You should hear the lock motor running (a whirring or clicking sound) as it attempts to slide the lock bolt. No sound means the motor may not be receiving power or has failed.

The lock motor runs for 10–20 seconds. If you hear it run but the door does not lock, the lock mechanism may be jammed.

3

Check the lock mechanism for obstructions

Turn off the breaker. Remove the oven door (Miele doors typically have removable hinges) and inspect the lock assembly at the top of the oven frame. Look for food debris, grease, or a warped lock bar.

Grease that has carbonized (turned into hard carbon) on the lock mechanism is a common cause of jamming.

4

Test the lock motor and position sensor

Disconnect the lock motor and measure its winding resistance. Also check the lock position micro-switch for continuity in both positions. If either component has failed, it must be replaced.

The position sensor must confirm 'locked' for self-clean to begin and 'unlocked' for the door to release after cooling.

When to call a professional

The self-clean lock assembly is a safety-critical component. Professional replacement is recommended, especially since the oven operates at extreme temperatures during pyrolytic cleaning.
