Miele Dishwasher Error Code F47 — Communication Error Between Boards
What this means
Error F47 indicates a communication breakdown between the user interface (display/button) board and the main control board (ELP). Miele dishwashers use a data bus (often SPI or similar protocol) to exchange information between these two modules. A faulty ribbon cable, corroded connector, failed display board, or failed main board can all cause F47.
Alternate codes: F 47
Step-by-step fix
4 stepsPower-cycle the dishwasher
Turn off power at the breaker for 5 minutes, then restore power. A communication glitch caused by a momentary power fluctuation may clear on reset.
If the display lights up but shows F47, the display board has power but cannot talk to the main board.
Reseat the ribbon cable / data connector
Unplug the dishwasher and remove the inner door panel. Locate the flat ribbon cable or wire harness connecting the display board (top of the door) to the main control board (bottom of the door or base). Unplug and firmly reseat both ends.
Ribbon cables can slowly creep out of their sockets over time due to vibration. A firm reseat often resolves F47.
Inspect the cable for damage
Examine the full length of the ribbon cable. Look for creases, tears, or areas where the cable passes through tight bends. The door hinge area is a common damage point.
If the cable has a visible crease or pinch mark, the internal traces may be broken even if the outer layer looks intact.
Test with a known-good board (if available)
If reseating the cable does not help, one of the two boards has failed. The display board is typically less expensive and more commonly the culprit. If you have access to a known-good display board, swap it in to isolate the fault.
Miele display boards are model-specific. Ensure you get the exact part number for your model.
When to call a professional
Board replacement on Miele dishwashers requires careful handling and sometimes firmware programming. A Miele-certified technician is recommended.
