F33

Miele Dishwasher Error Code F33 — Door Open During Cycle

Moderate Repair 20–45 minutes Tools: Torx screwdriver set, Multimeter

What this means

Error F33 is triggered when the door-closed signal is lost during an active wash cycle. While it may seem like the same issue as F32, F33 specifically means the door was closed and working, but the signal was interrupted mid-program. This can indicate a loose door latch that vibrates open during the wash cycle, a failing micro-switch with intermittent contact, or a wiring issue exacerbated by vibration.

Alternate codes: F 33

Step-by-step fix

4 steps
1

Close the door and restart

Ensure the door is firmly closed and press start to resume the program. If the door genuinely came open due to accidental bumping, this is the simple fix.

Some Miele dishwashers with AutoOpen drying feature open the door slightly after the final rinse. This is normal and should not trigger F33.

2

Check the door latch tension

Open and close the door several times. It should click firmly into place with no wobble. If the latch feels loose or does not snap positively, the latch or strike has worn down.

Try gently pushing and pulling the closed door — if it moves or the latch clicks, the latch needs tightening or replacement.

3

Test the micro-switch for intermittent contact

With the dishwasher unplugged, access and disconnect the door switch. Test for continuity while repeatedly pressing and releasing the switch button. Also gently tap the switch body to check for intermittent breaks.

An intermittent switch may test fine when static but fails under the vibration of a running wash cycle.

4

Inspect wiring at the hinge

The wires passing through or near the door hinge flex every time the door opens and closes. After years of use, a wire may break internally while the insulation still looks intact. Test continuity of each wire while gently flexing the door.

Use a multimeter on continuity mode and flex the hinge area — a broken internal wire will cause the tone to cut in and out.

When to call a professional

If the error occurs frequently with no obvious mechanical or wiring fault, the control board's door-sense circuit may have a sensitivity issue requiring professional diagnosis.
