F11

Miele Dishwasher Error Code F11 — Drainage Fault

Moderate Repair 15–45 minutes Tools: Phillips screwdriver, Towels, Shallow bowl or pan, Pipe cleaner or small brush

What this means

Error F11 on Miele dishwashers indicates a drainage problem — the unit has failed to pump out water within the allotted time. This is one of the most common Miele dishwasher faults. Causes include a blocked drain filter, kinked drain hose, clogged siphon connection, faulty drain pump, or a blockage in the household drain line. On Miele models with a non-return valve in the drain hose, a stuck valve can also trigger this code. The dishwasher will stop the cycle and the display or indicator LED will flash the F11 fault.

Alternate codes: F 11

Step-by-step fix

4 steps
1

Cancel the cycle and check the drain filter

Open the dishwasher door. Remove the lower spray arm by twisting it counterclockwise. Lift out the coarse filter and fine mesh filter from the sump area. Rinse both filters under running water and clear any food debris, grease buildup, or foreign objects (glass shards, bones, etc.).

Miele recommends cleaning the drain filter every 1–2 weeks for optimal performance.

2

Inspect the drain pump

With the filters removed, look into the sump area. You may see the drain pump cover — gently remove it if accessible and check for obstructions (broken glass, toothpicks, fruit pits). On many Miele models, the pump impeller is visible and should spin freely when nudged.

Use a flashlight to get a clear view into the sump. Small items like olive pits or popcorn kernels are common culprits.

3

Check the drain hose and siphon connection

Pull the dishwasher forward enough to access the drain hose at the rear. Ensure the hose is not kinked, pinched, or compressed. Check where the hose connects to the sink siphon or garbage disposal — disconnect and clear any blockage. If connected to a garbage disposal, confirm the knockout plug was removed during installation.

The drain hose must have a high loop or air gap to prevent backflow. Ensure the loop reaches at least 60 cm above the floor.

4

Run a test drain cycle

Reinstall the filters, spray arm, and reconnect the drain hose. Close the door and start a rinse cycle or press the drain button (available on some Miele models). If water drains successfully, the F11 error should clear.

If the pump runs but water does not drain, the drain pump impeller may be broken or the pump motor may need replacement.

When to call a professional

If the drain pump makes no noise at all (possible electrical failure), or if the error persists after clearing all blockages, the drain pump or the electronic control board may need professional diagnosis and replacement.
