Er rS

LG Refrigerator Error Code Er rS — Refrigerator Sensor Error

Moderate Fix 20–40 minutes Tools: Screwdriver, Multimeter

What this means

The Er rS error code indicates the fresh food (refrigerator) compartment temperature sensor (thermistor) is sending an abnormal reading. This sensor monitors the refrigerator compartment temperature and tells the control board when to circulate cold air from the freezer. A faulty sensor can cause the fridge to be too warm or too cold.

Alternate codes: rS

Step-by-step fix

3 steps
1

Locate the refrigerator sensor

The fresh food sensor is typically located inside the refrigerator compartment, often near the top or near the air vent where cold air enters from the freezer. It is a small thermistor with a wire connector.

2

Test the sensor

Unplug the refrigerator. Disconnect the sensor and test with a multimeter. At 37°F (3°C) — normal fridge temperature — the sensor should read approximately 8,000–9,000 ohms. A reading of 0 or infinity indicates failure.

Compare your reading against an NTC thermistor resistance chart for the specific temperature.

3

Replace the sensor

If the sensor is faulty, remove it from its mount and install the replacement. Reconnect the wiring and plug the refrigerator back in. The error should clear within a few minutes.

When to call a professional

If the sensor tests fine but the error persists, the control board's sensor input circuit may be faulty. A technician can test the board.
