LG Refrigerator Error Code Er CS — Compressor Sensor Error
What this means
The Er CS error code indicates a problem with the compressor's discharge temperature sensor. This sensor monitors the temperature of refrigerant leaving the compressor to ensure the system is operating within safe parameters. A faulty sensor can cause the compressor to shut down prematurely or fail to start.
Alternate codes: CS
Step-by-step fix
3 stepsPower cycle the refrigerator
Unplug the refrigerator for 15 minutes and plug it back in. This allows the compressor to reset and clears any temporary sensor errors.
Wait at least 5 minutes after plugging back in before the compressor attempts to restart — this is normal.
Locate the compressor sensor
The compressor discharge temperature sensor is typically attached to the compressor discharge line (the hot pipe coming out of the compressor) at the bottom rear of the refrigerator. Remove the lower rear access panel to reach it.
Test the sensor
Unplug the refrigerator. Disconnect the sensor and test its resistance with a multimeter. At room temperature, it should read approximately 5,000 ohms. An abnormal reading (0 or infinity) indicates failure.
The compressor area can be very hot — allow time to cool before touching components.
When to call a professional
Replacing the compressor sensor itself is straightforward, but if the compressor is also having issues (not starting, short cycling, or overheating), a certified refrigeration technician should diagnose the sealed system.
