LG Dryer Error Code gAS — No Gas Supply Detected
What this means
The gAS error code on LG gas dryers indicates that the unit is not receiving gas. This can be caused by a closed gas supply valve, a kinked or disconnected gas line, a faulty gas valve solenoid coil inside the dryer, or a utility supply interruption. The dryer drum may still spin but will not produce any heat. This code only appears on gas models, not electric dryers.
Alternate codes: GAS
Step-by-step fix
4 stepsVerify the gas supply valve is open
Locate the gas shut-off valve behind or near the dryer. The valve handle should be parallel to the gas line (open position). If it is perpendicular, turn it to the open position. Also verify that other gas appliances in your home are working to rule out a utility outage.
If you smell gas at any point, do not operate any appliances. Leave the area and contact your gas utility immediately.
Inspect the gas supply line
Check the flexible gas connector hose between the wall valve and the dryer for kinks, damage, or loose fittings. Ensure the connection is tight and secure at both ends.
Apply leak detection solution (or soapy water) to all fittings. Bubbles indicate a gas leak that must be repaired before use.
Test the gas valve solenoid coils
Unplug the dryer and turn off the gas supply. Access the gas valve assembly at the bottom front of the dryer. Disconnect the wire leads from the solenoid coils and test each coil with a multimeter. Each coil should read between 300–2,000 ohms.
Gas valve coils often fail in pairs. If one reads open (infinite resistance), replace both coils together.
Replace faulty solenoid coils
If a solenoid coil has failed, pull the old coils off the gas valve stems and press the new coils into place. Reconnect the wire leads, restore the gas supply, and test the dryer on a timed dry cycle.
After replacing coils, run the dryer for 5 minutes and check for proper ignition by watching through the viewing window at the bottom.
When to call a professional
If the gas supply and solenoid coils are both confirmed good but the dryer still does not ignite, the igniter or flame sensor may be defective and should be diagnosed by a licensed gas appliance technician.
