LG Dryer Error Code d95 — 95%+ Exhaust Restriction

Professional Repair 60–120 minutes Tools: Dryer vent cleaning brush kit, Vacuum with hose attachment, Screwdriver

What this means

The d95 error code is the most severe airflow restriction warning on LG dryers. The vent is 95% or more blocked, meaning almost no exhaust can exit the machine. This is a critical fire hazard. Do not use the dryer until the vent system has been completely cleaned and verified.

Step-by-step fix

4 steps
1

Do not use the dryer

Stop using the dryer immediately. A 95% blockage is an extreme fire risk. Unplug the dryer as a precaution until the vent system is fully cleaned and tested.

This level of blockage often means the vent has not been cleaned in years, or the duct may be crushed or disconnected inside the wall.

2

Inspect and clean the full vent system

Disconnect the vent duct from the dryer. Clean the transition duct (the piece from the dryer to the wall) and the main duct run all the way to the exterior vent hood. Check for crushed, disconnected, or sagging sections.

At this level of blockage, professional vent cleaning is strongly recommended.

3

Replace damaged ductwork

If the duct is vinyl, thin foil flex, or has crushed sections, replace it with rigid or semi-rigid metal duct. Ensure all joints are secured with foil tape (never use screws inside the duct — they catch lint).

Never use duct tape on dryer vents — it deteriorates from heat. Use UL-listed foil tape instead.

4

Verify airflow after cleaning

Reconnect the vent and run the dryer on Air Dry. Check the exterior vent hood for strong airflow. If the d95 code clears and drops to d80 or lower, the cleaning was successful. If d95 persists, there may be a hidden blockage or the vent run is too long.

When to call a professional

At d95, professional vent cleaning is strongly recommended. The blockage may be in an inaccessible section of the duct. A professional can also inspect for disconnected ductwork inside walls, which is a common cause of extreme blockage readings.
