LG Dishwasher Error Code AE — Water Leak Detected
What this means
The AE error code means the leak sensor in the base pan of the LG dishwasher has detected water. This is a flood protection feature. Common causes include a leaking door gasket, a cracked tub, a loose hose connection, or a faulty inlet valve. The dishwasher will not operate until the leak is resolved and the base pan is dried.
Step-by-step fix
4 stepsTurn off the water supply
Turn off the water supply valve under the sink. Unplug the dishwasher or turn off its breaker. Place towels around the base to catch any water.
Check the door gasket
Inspect the rubber door gasket around the perimeter of the door opening. Look for tears, warping, food buildup, or gaps that could allow water to leak past the seal during a cycle.
Wipe the gasket clean and close the door on a piece of paper — you should feel resistance when pulling the paper out. If not, the gasket needs replacement.
Inspect under the dishwasher
Carefully tilt the dishwasher back or pull it out from under the counter. Look underneath for the source of the leak. Check all hose connections, the inlet valve, and the drain pump area for drips or moisture.
Run a short cycle with the kickplate removed to observe where water appears.
Dry the base pan
The leak sensor will remain triggered as long as water is in the base pan. Use towels to soak up the water and allow the pan to dry completely. A hair dryer or fan can speed this up.
The AE error will not clear until the base pan is completely dry.
When to call a professional
If the leak is coming from the tub, spray arm seal, or a connection that is difficult to access, call a technician. A cracked tub is a major repair that may not be cost-effective on older machines.
