KitchenAid Oven Error Code F4-E1 — Meat Probe Defect
What this means
Error code F4-E1 indicates a defect in the meat probe circuit. This can be caused by a faulty probe, a damaged probe receptacle inside the oven, or a wiring issue in the probe circuit. The probe may have pinched wires, condensation in the receptacle, or internal damage from being left in the oven during a self-clean cycle.
Alternate codes: F4E1
Step-by-step fix
4 stepsRemove the meat probe
Unplug the meat probe from the receptacle inside the oven. Press Cancel to clear the error.
If no probe is plugged in, the receptacle itself may be shorting.
Inspect the probe and receptacle
Check the probe plug for bent pins, damaged wires, or discoloration. Inspect the receptacle inside the oven for moisture, food debris, or contamination.
Clean the receptacle with a dry cotton swab — moisture or grease can cause false readings.
Test the probe
Use a multimeter to test the probe's resistance. At room temperature, a working probe should read approximately 50,000 ohms. An open or shorted reading means the probe is defective.
Never leave the meat probe in the oven during a self-clean cycle — the extreme heat destroys the probe.
Replace the meat probe
If the probe tests defective, purchase a replacement probe compatible with your model. Simply plug the new probe into the receptacle.
Make sure the replacement probe is rated for your KitchenAid model — not all probes are interchangeable.
When to call a professional
If the error occurs without a probe plugged in, the receptacle or its wiring inside the oven wall may be damaged and require professional repair.
