F30

KitchenAid Dryer Error Code F30 — Restricted Airflow

Easy Fix 15–45 minutes Tools: Vacuum cleaner, Dryer vent brush

What this means

The F30 error code on KitchenAid dryers (also displayed as 'AF' for Airflow) indicates the exhaust venting system is restricted. The dryer is not able to push enough air through the vent to properly dry clothes. This is most commonly caused by a clogged lint filter, a blocked exhaust vent duct, or a crushed vent hose. Restricted airflow is also a fire hazard.

Alternate codes: AF

Step-by-step fix

4 steps
1

Clean the lint filter

Remove the lint filter and clean off all lint. If the filter is clogged, airflow is immediately restricted.

Wash the lint filter with soap and water every few months to remove fabric softener residue.

2

Clean the exhaust vent duct

Disconnect the vent hose from the back of the dryer. Use a dryer vent brush or vacuum to clean lint buildup from the vent duct all the way to the outside wall vent. Check the outside vent flap to make sure it opens freely.

Dryer vents should be cleaned at least once a year. Clogged vents are a leading cause of dryer fires.

3

Check the vent hose

Make sure the vent hose behind the dryer isn't crushed, kinked, or using a vinyl hose (which can trap lint). Use a rigid or semi-rigid metal vent hose for best airflow.

Avoid using more than 25 feet of vent duct, including 5 feet subtracted per 90-degree turn.

4

Restart the dryer

Reconnect the vent hose and restart the dryer. The F30/AF code should clear once airflow is restored.

When to call a professional

If the vent path is clean but the code persists, the internal blower or blower wheel may be damaged. Call a technician.
