Kenmore Washer Error Code F6 E2 — Motor Control Communication Lost
What this means
The F6 E2 error code on Kenmore washers indicates the central control unit (CCU) cannot communicate with the motor control unit (MCU). On front-load washers, the MCU is a separate board that directly drives the motor. A broken communication line, a failed MCU, or a failed CCU can trigger this code. The washer will not spin or agitate.
Alternate codes: F6E2
Step-by-step fix
3 stepsPower cycle the washer
Unplug the washer for 5 minutes, then plug it back in. Attempt to run a cycle. If the motor engages, the issue was a temporary communication glitch.
If the washer drum does not move at all when a cycle starts, the motor communication is still interrupted.
Check the CCU-to-MCU wire harness
Remove the top panel and rear panel. Locate the wire harness running from the CCU (top rear) to the MCU (bottom rear, near the motor). Check for loose connectors, damaged wires, or corroded pins.
Water from a leaking tub seal can drip onto the MCU and cause connector corrosion.
Test and replace the MCU
If the wiring is intact, the MCU is the most common failure. Access it at the bottom rear of the washer. Photograph connections, disconnect the old MCU, and install the replacement.
If the MCU has visible burn marks or a burned smell, it has had a catastrophic failure.
When to call a professional
If both the CCU and MCU replacements do not resolve the issue, the motor winding connections may need professional testing.
