Kenmore Dryer Error Code F6 E2 — Incoming Line Voltage Error

Moderate-Advanced Repair 15–30 minutes Tools: Multimeter

What this means

The F6 E2 error code on Kenmore dryers indicates the control board has detected incorrect incoming voltage. Most residential dryers require 240V (two 120V legs). If one leg is lost (a tripped breaker, a loose wire, or a faulty outlet), the dryer receives only 120V. The dryer may run but not heat, or the display may be erratic. This code can also appear if the voltage is too high.

Alternate codes: F6E2

Step-by-step fix

3 steps
1

Check the circuit breaker

Go to the electrical panel and locate the dryer breaker. It is a double-pole breaker (two handles tied together). If one half is tripped while the other is on, flip both off and back on. A dryer circuit can lose one leg while the other remains energized.

Some breakers look like they are on but are actually tripped — flip them fully off first, then back on.

2

Test the outlet voltage

Using a multimeter set to AC voltage, test the dryer outlet. You should read 240V between the two hot slots, and 120V from each hot slot to the neutral/ground. If you read only 120V between the hot slots, one leg has been lost.

If you are not comfortable testing a 240V outlet, have an electrician verify the voltage.

3

Check the power cord and plug

Inspect the dryer power cord for damage — burned, melted, or loose terminal connections at the dryer end or the plug end. A loose terminal on the dryer's junction block can drop one leg of 240V.

Pull the dryer away from the wall and check the cord connection at the rear of the dryer. Ensure all terminal screws are tight.

When to call a professional

If the breaker, outlet, and power cord all check out correctly but the error persists, an electrician should check the circuit wiring from the panel to the outlet. Do not operate the dryer with incorrect voltage.
