Kenmore Dryer Error Code F6 E1 — Communication Error Between Boards
What this means
The F6 E1 error code on Kenmore dryers indicates a communication failure between the user interface (UI) board and the main control board (CCU). The UI board is behind the front display/buttons, while the CCU is behind the top panel. A loose ribbon cable, power surge damage, or a failed board triggers this code. The dryer will not respond to button presses.
Alternate codes: F6E1
Step-by-step fix
3 stepsPower cycle the dryer
Unplug the dryer for 5 minutes, then plug it back in. Press any button to check if the display responds.
If this error appeared after a power surge or outage, a simple reset may resolve it.
Check the ribbon cable / wire harness
Remove the top panel or console to access the boards. Find the ribbon cable or wire harness connecting the UI board to the CCU. Disconnect and reseat both ends firmly.
A partially disconnected ribbon cable is the most common cause of this error. Press the connector firmly until it clicks.
Replace the UI board or CCU
If the cable is intact and the error persists, one of the boards has failed. The UI board is more commonly the failure. Replace it first, then the CCU if the code continues.
Photograph all connections before removing either board.
When to call a professional
If both boards have been replaced and the error persists, there may be a wiring fault in the harness or an issue with the dryer's power supply.
