Jenn-Air Washer Error Code F5E2 — Door Lock Fault

Moderate Repair 20–45 minutes Tools: Torx T20 screwdriver, Phillips screwdriver, Multimeter

What this means

Error F5E2 on Jenn-Air washers indicates the door lock mechanism is not engaging or disengaging correctly. The control board sends a signal to lock the door before the cycle begins, and if the lock switch does not confirm the lock within the expected time, this error is triggered. This is common on Jenn-Air front-load washers that use the Whirlpool platform. Causes include a faulty door lock assembly, a misaligned door strike, a wiring issue between the lock and the control board, or a failed control board that is not sending the lock signal.

Step-by-step fix

4 steps
1

Reset the washer

Unplug the washer or turn off the breaker and wait 2 minutes. Restore power. Attempt to close the door firmly and start a cycle. Sometimes a temporary glitch in the lock motor causes this code, and a reset clears it.

Make sure the door is closing completely flush — even a small misalignment can prevent the lock from engaging.

2

Inspect the door strike and latch area

Open the door and examine the door strike (the hook that slides into the lock assembly on the frame). Check for damage, warping, or debris preventing full insertion. Clean the strike and the lock receptacle with a damp cloth. Close the door and check that the strike clicks firmly into the lock.

On Jenn-Air front-loaders, the door gasket (boot seal) can shift over time and partially block the strike from seating properly.

3

Test the door lock assembly

Unplug the washer. Remove the front top panel to access the door lock assembly (mounted on the front frame near the door opening). Disconnect the wire harness from the lock. Use a multimeter to test the lock solenoid for continuity. Also check the lock switch contacts. If there is no continuity through the solenoid, the lock assembly needs replacement.

Jenn-Air uses the same lock assemblies as Whirlpool/Maytag — parts are widely available and interchangeable within the same platform.

4

Replace the door lock assembly

Remove the mounting screws holding the lock to the frame. Disconnect the wire harness. Install the new lock assembly, reconnect the harness, and reinstall the panel. Plug in the washer and test by running a quick cycle.

After replacing the lock, run a diagnostic cycle (hold Start and select buttons for 3 seconds on many Jenn-Air models) to confirm the lock registers properly.

When to call a professional

If the door lock tests fine but the error persists, the main control board may not be sending the lock signal. Board-level diagnosis requires professional tools and experience.
