Jenn-Air Refrigerator Error Code PF — Power Failure Detected

Easy DIY Fix 1–2 minutes No tools needed

What this means

Error PF on Jenn-Air refrigerators indicates the unit experienced a power interruption. This is an informational code — the refrigerator detected that power was lost and restored, and it alerts you so you can check whether food temperatures remained safe during the outage. Jenn-Air's premium refrigerators will display this on the LCD panel or touchscreen after power returns. The refrigerator resumes normal operation automatically but holds the alert until you acknowledge it.

Alternate codes: PO, Power Failure

Step-by-step fix

3 steps
1

Acknowledge the alert

Press any button on the control panel (or press the specific 'Dismiss' or 'OK' button on touchscreen models) to clear the PF code. The refrigerator is already running normally — this code is just an informational alert.

On some Jenn-Air models with WiFi, you can also dismiss the alert through the Jenn-Air app on your phone.

2

Check food safety

Open the refrigerator and freezer compartments and assess whether food temperatures may have risen during the outage. A full freezer can hold safe temperatures for about 48 hours; a half-full freezer for about 24 hours. If meat, dairy, or prepared foods feel warm (above 40°F / 4°C), they should be discarded.

Keep an appliance thermometer in both the fridge and freezer — it makes checking post-outage temperatures much easier.

3

Investigate recurring PF codes

If PF appears frequently without known power outages, the power cord, outlet, or circuit breaker may have an intermittent issue. Check that the plug is securely in the outlet, the outlet is not shared with a high-draw appliance, and the breaker is not tripping.

Jenn-Air recommends a dedicated 20-amp circuit for their built-in refrigerators. A shared circuit can cause momentary voltage drops that register as power failures.

When to call a professional

If PF keeps appearing without any actual power outage in your home, have an electrician check the dedicated circuit and outlet. The refrigerator's power cord or main control board could also be at fault.
