F2

Jenn-Air Oven Error Code F2 — Oven Over-Temperature Detected

Advanced Repair 20–45 minutes Tools: Phillips screwdriver, Multimeter, 1/4-inch nut driver

What this means

Error F2 on Jenn-Air ovens indicates the oven temperature sensor has detected a temperature exceeding the safe maximum (usually above 665°F in bake mode or above the self-clean temperature limit). The oven immediately shuts off the heating elements and displays this code. Causes include a shorted oven temperature sensor, a stuck relay on the control board that keeps the element energized, a faulty temperature sensor circuit, or a failed cooling fan (on convection models). This is a safety-critical code and should be addressed immediately.

Alternate codes: F2-E0, F2E0

Step-by-step fix

3 steps
1

Allow the oven to cool and reset

Turn off the oven at the circuit breaker immediately. Do not open the oven door — let it cool naturally for at least 30 minutes. Once cool, restore power. If the F2 was triggered by a legitimate high temperature during self-clean, it should clear after cooling.

If the oven was in self-clean mode when F2 appeared, the door lock may remain engaged until the cavity temperature drops below 550°F. Do not force the door.

2

Test the oven temperature sensor

Unplug the oven or turn off the breaker. The temperature sensor (RTD probe) is located inside the oven cavity, usually at the top rear wall, held by one or two screws. Disconnect it from the wiring harness. At room temperature, test the sensor resistance with a multimeter — it should read approximately 1080–1100 ohms at 72°F (22°C). A significantly lower reading suggests a short; an OL reading indicates an open circuit.

If the reading is close to 1100 ohms at room temperature but the oven still threw F2, the sensor may be intermittently shorting at high temperatures. Replacing it is still recommended.

3

Check for a stuck relay on the EOC board

If the temperature sensor tests good, the relay on the EOC board that controls the bake or broil element may be stuck closed, continuously feeding power to the element. With the oven off and unplugged, use a multimeter to check continuity across the bake and broil element terminals on the EOC. There should be no continuity when the oven is off. Continuity indicates a welded relay — the EOC must be replaced.

A stuck relay is a fire hazard — do not use the oven until the EOC is replaced.

When to call a professional

If you suspect a stuck relay (the oven gets hot even when it should be off), disconnect the oven from power immediately and call a Jenn-Air authorized service technician. This is a safety issue.
