E2

Hotpoint Washer Error Code E2 — Water Fill Timeout

Easy Fix 10–25 minutes Tools: Pliers, Bucket, Multimeter

What this means

The E2 error on Hotpoint washers means the control board has not detected adequate water filling within 8 minutes of starting a cycle. This is typically caused by closed water supply valves, kinked inlet hoses, clogged inlet screens, a faulty water inlet valve, or low household water pressure. The washer will stop and display the error until the issue is resolved.

Alternate codes: E2 F3

Step-by-step fix

4 steps
1

Check the water supply valves

Verify that both the hot and cold water supply faucets behind the washer are fully open. Even a partially closed valve can reduce flow enough to trigger this error.

Turn the valve handles counterclockwise to fully open. If they feel stuck, do not force — the valve may need replacing.

2

Inspect the inlet hoses and screens

Turn off the water supply and disconnect the inlet hoses from the back of the washer. Check the small mesh screens inside each hose connection for sediment or mineral buildup. Clean or replace clogged screens.

Have a bucket ready — residual water will drain from the hoses when you disconnect them.

3

Test water pressure

Reconnect the hoses and turn on the supply. The washer requires at least 20 PSI of water pressure. If other fixtures in your home have low pressure, the issue may be house-wide.

A simple way to test: fill a bucket from the laundry faucet. If it takes more than 30 seconds to fill a gallon, pressure is likely too low.

4

Test the water inlet valve

Disconnect power and access the water inlet valve at the back of the washer. Test each solenoid for continuity with a multimeter. A reading of 500–1500 ohms is normal. No continuity means the valve is faulty.

The hot and cold sides have separate solenoids — test both individually.

When to call a professional

If water supply and inlet valve are fine but the error continues, the pressure switch or control board may be at fault — both require professional diagnosis.
