E2

Hotpoint Dryer Error Code E2 — Key Stuck / Button Press Detected

Moderate Repair 15–30 minutes Tools: Phillips screwdriver, Clean dry cloth

What this means

The E2 error on Hotpoint dryers indicates the electronic control board is detecting a continuously pressed button on the user interface panel. This can be caused by a stuck or jammed button, moisture on the control panel, a faulty membrane switch, or a failing user interface board.

Step-by-step fix

4 steps
1

Power cycle the dryer

Unplug the dryer for 2 minutes, then plug it back in. A momentary electrical glitch or moisture event can sometimes cause a false E2.

If your laundry area is humid, condensation on the control panel is a common trigger.

2

Press each button individually

Press and release every button on the control panel one at a time. Check if any button feels stuck, gummy, or does not spring back. Try wiggling any stuck buttons to free them.

Spilled laundry products can seep behind buttons and cause sticking. Clean around each button with a damp (not wet) cloth.

3

Inspect the user interface board

Disconnect power. Remove the screws holding the control panel cover. Carefully lift the cover and inspect the membrane switch for damage, peeling, or visible moisture. Check the ribbon cable connections to the control board.

If you see corrosion on the ribbon cable contacts, gently clean them with a pencil eraser and rubbing alcohol.

4

Replace the user interface board if needed

If buttons test fine but the error persists, the user interface board may have a failed component. Replace the entire board, reconnect all cables, and test.

When ordering, match the exact model number from the tag inside the door or on the back panel — interface boards vary by model.

When to call a professional

If replacing the interface board does not resolve the error, the main control board may be at fault and requires professional diagnosis.
