Hotpoint Dishwasher Error Code C3 — Water Fill Timeout
What this means
The C3 error on Hotpoint dishwashers means the control board has not detected adequate water level within the fill time limit. Common causes include a closed water supply valve, a kinked inlet hose, a clogged inlet screen, a faulty water inlet valve, or a failed float switch.

Step-by-step fix
4 stepsCheck the water supply valve
Locate the water supply valve under the kitchen sink (the line that feeds the dishwasher). Verify it is fully open by turning the handle counterclockwise.
Some older valves can appear open but are actually corroded shut internally. Try closing and reopening it a few times.
Inspect the inlet hose and screen
Turn off the water supply and disconnect the inlet hose from the dishwasher inlet valve. Check the small mesh screen for sediment or mineral buildup. Clean or replace the screen.
Keep a towel under the connection — water will drip when you disconnect the hose.
Check the float switch
Open the dishwasher and locate the float assembly at the bottom of the tub (usually front-left). Lift the float dome up and down — it should move freely. If it is stuck in the up position, it signals the tub is full when it is not.
Food debris or utensils that fell off the rack can jam the float. Clear anything around it.
Test the water inlet valve
Disconnect power. Locate the inlet valve behind the lower access panel. Disconnect the wires and test the solenoid for continuity (should read 500–1500 ohms). Replace if it reads open.
Also check for water flow through the valve by briefly turning on the supply with the hose disconnected into a bucket.
When to call a professional
If the water supply, inlet valve, and float are all fine but the error persists, the control board may not be sending the fill signal properly.
