Haier Washer Error Code Err8 — Water Overfill
What this means
Error code Err8 on Haier washers indicates the tub has filled with more water than the selected cycle requires. The pressure switch detected a higher water level than the control board commanded. This is a safety shutdown to prevent flooding. Causes include a stuck-open water inlet valve, a malfunctioning pressure switch that fails to signal the board to stop filling, a blocked or cracked pressure switch hose, or a control board that is not cutting power to the inlet valve at the correct level.
Alternate codes: E08, Er8
Step-by-step fix
4 stepsTurn off the water supply immediately
Close both hot and cold water valves behind the washer to stop water from entering. The washer may attempt to drain on its own. If the tub is very full, use the drain filter access to release water into a pan.
Acting quickly prevents water from overflowing the tub and flooding your laundry room.
Test the water inlet valve
Unplug the washer. Disconnect the inlet hoses. Turn the water back on briefly — if water continues to flow through the disconnected valve (dripping from the valve ports into the machine), the valve is stuck open and must be replaced.
A stuck-open inlet valve is the most dangerous cause of Err8 — it will overfill the tub even when the washer is off.
Inspect the pressure switch and hose
Locate the pressure switch and its hose. Check the hose for cracks, disconnections, or blockages. A blocked hose prevents the switch from sensing the true water level. Blow through the hose gently to test the switch — it should click.
A cracked pressure hose causes the switch to read a lower water level than actual, so the board keeps filling.
Replace the inlet valve if stuck open
Order the replacement inlet valve for your Haier model. Turn off the water supply, disconnect the hoses, remove the old valve, and install the new one. Reconnect and run a test cycle, watching the water level carefully.
After replacing the valve, run the first cycle with the water supply valves only partially open and monitor for proper fill level.
When to call a professional
If the inlet valve and pressure switch both test good but the washer keeps overfilling, the control board relay that switches the inlet valve may be welded closed. Board replacement requires a certified technician.
