Haier Washer Error Code Err6 — Motor Speed Incorrect
What this means
Error code Err6 on Haier washers indicates the drive motor is running at an incorrect speed. The control board monitors the motor's tachometer (speed sensor) and compares actual RPM to the expected RPM for each cycle phase. A significant discrepancy triggers Err6. Causes include a faulty motor tachometer, a loose motor harness connection, a worn drive belt (on belt-driven models), an overloaded drum, a failing motor, or a control board issue. On direct-drive Haier models, the stator or rotor position sensor may also be at fault.
Alternate codes: E06, Er6
Step-by-step fix
4 stepsReduce the load and restart
An overloaded drum forces the motor to work harder and may prevent it from reaching the target speed. Remove some items, redistribute the remaining laundry, and restart the cycle.
As a rule, the drum should be about 3/4 full at most — leave room for items to tumble freely.
Check the drive belt (belt-driven models)
Unplug the washer and remove the rear panel. Inspect the drive belt for cracks, fraying, or glazing. Push on the belt — it should deflect about 1/2 inch. A loose or broken belt will prevent the motor from driving the drum at the correct speed.
A belt that looks shiny or glazed on the inner surface is slipping and needs replacement even if it is not broken.
Test the motor tachometer
Locate the tachometer on the back of the motor (a small sensor with a magnet and coil). Disconnect it and measure resistance with a multimeter — it should read approximately 100–300 ohms. Also check for secure wiring connections.
The tachometer magnet can crack or detach from the motor shaft, causing intermittent speed reading errors.
Test the motor windings
Disconnect the motor from the harness. Test between each pair of motor terminals with a multimeter. Resistance should be consistent across all pairs (within 1–2 ohms of each other). A significantly different reading on one pair indicates a burned winding.
Also test each terminal to the motor housing for ground faults — there should be no continuity.
When to call a professional
Motor and tachometer replacement on Haier washers can require specialized tools and may need recalibration of the control board. A professional technician should handle motor replacements.
