Haier Washer Error Code Err3 — Temperature Sensor Failure
What this means
Error code Err3 on Haier washers indicates the temperature sensor (NTC thermistor) has returned an abnormal reading to the control board. The sensor either reads open, shorted, or far outside the expected range. Without accurate temperature data, the washer cannot regulate water heating for warm or hot cycles. Causes include a failed thermistor, a disconnected or corroded sensor connector, or damaged wiring between the sensor and the control board.
Alternate codes: E03, Er3
Step-by-step fix
3 stepsLocate the temperature sensor
Unplug the washer. The thermistor is typically mounted on or near the heating element at the bottom of the tub (front-load) or inside the tub near the agitator base (top-load). Remove the rear panel or lower access panel to reach it.
On most Haier front-load washers, the thermistor is a small probe inserted into a rubber grommet on the heater assembly.
Test the thermistor
Disconnect the thermistor leads. Measure resistance with a multimeter. At room temperature (~72°F / 22°C), an NTC thermistor should read approximately 10,000–15,000 ohms. An OL reading (open) or near-zero reading (shorted) means the sensor has failed.
To verify the sensor is responsive, hold it in your hand for 30 seconds — the resistance should drop noticeably from your body heat.
Replace the thermistor if faulty
Pull the old thermistor straight out of its grommet. Insert the new sensor and reconnect the leads. Reassemble the access panel and run a warm or hot cycle to verify the error clears.
Ensure the new thermistor is fully seated in the grommet — a loose fit will give inaccurate readings.
When to call a professional
If the thermistor tests normal but Err3 persists, the issue may be in the control board's temperature input circuit. Professional diagnosis is recommended.
