F4

Haier Refrigerator Error Code F4 — Freezer Sensor Error

Major Repair 20–40 minutes Tools: Phillips screwdriver, Multimeter

What this means

Error code F4 on Haier refrigerators indicates the freezer compartment temperature sensor (thermistor) has returned an abnormal reading. This sensor monitors the freezer air temperature and controls compressor run times. A failed sensor can cause the freezer to run continuously (overcooling and wasting energy) or not cool enough (leading to thawed food). Common causes are an open or shorted thermistor, corroded wiring, or a disconnected connector.

Step-by-step fix

3 steps
1

Reset the refrigerator

Unplug for 10 minutes and plug back in. If F4 clears and the freezer maintains 0°F (–18°C), the error was transient.

Place a standalone freezer thermometer inside to independently verify the temperature after reset.

2

Locate and test the freezer sensor

The sensor is typically mounted inside the freezer compartment behind a cover or clip. Remove the cover, disconnect the sensor leads, and measure resistance. At room temperature (~72°F), expect approximately 10,000–15,000 ohms.

In a working freezer at 0°F, the sensor resistance will be much higher (around 30,000–50,000 ohms). Test at room temperature for consistency.

3

Replace the sensor

Remove the old sensor and install the replacement in the same mounting position. Reconnect wiring and reassemble. Plug in and monitor for 24 hours.

Allow 24 hours for the freezer to stabilize after the repair before judging whether the fix was successful.

When to call a professional

If the sensor tests good but F4 continues, the control board or wiring harness likely has an issue requiring professional diagnosis.
