Haier Refrigerator Error Code F2 — Ambient Temperature Sensor Error

Moderate Repair 15–30 minutes Tools: Phillips screwdriver, Multimeter

What this means

Error code F2 on Haier refrigerators indicates the ambient temperature sensor (the sensor that reads the room temperature outside the refrigerator) has returned an abnormal reading. The control board uses this data to adjust compressor run times based on the environment. A faulty ambient sensor can cause the refrigerator to overcool, undercool, or run continuously. This sensor is typically mounted on the main control board or near the condenser area.

Step-by-step fix

3 steps
1

Reset the refrigerator

Unplug for 10 minutes and plug back in. If F2 clears and does not return, it was a temporary sensor glitch.

Ambient sensor errors sometimes appear when the refrigerator is in a very hot or very cold location (garage, unheated porch) outside its designed operating range.

2

Locate and test the ambient sensor

The sensor is usually at the back of the refrigerator near the control board or on the exterior of the cabinet. Disconnect and measure resistance — expect approximately 10,000 ohms at 72°F room temperature.

If your refrigerator is in a garage with temperature extremes, the sensor may be reading correctly but the environment is outside the unit's specifications.

3

Replace the sensor if faulty

Remove the old sensor, install the replacement, and reconnect. Plug in and monitor for 24 hours.

Some Haier models have the ambient sensor built into the main board — in that case, the entire board may need replacement.

When to call a professional

If the sensor is integrated into the control board, professional replacement is recommended.
