F5

Haier Oven Error Code F5 — Control Board Relay Failure

Critical / Safety Risk 30–50 minutes Tools: Phillips screwdriver, Nut driver (1/4-inch), Multimeter

What this means

Error code F5 on Haier ovens indicates the electronic oven control board has detected a relay malfunction. The board's self-test checks the bake and broil relays after the user selects a cooking function. If a relay does not pass the check — either stuck open (element will not heat) or stuck closed (element stays on continuously) — the board displays F5 and disables the oven. This is a safety feature to prevent uncontrolled heating. A stuck-closed relay is particularly dangerous as it means the element may heat without user control.

Step-by-step fix

3 steps
1

Cancel and power-cycle the oven

Press Cancel, then turn off the circuit breaker for 2 minutes. Restore power and try to select a cooking function. Some F5 errors are caused by power surges that confuse the relay check.

If F5 returns immediately upon selecting Bake or Broil, the relay has likely physically failed and the board needs replacement.

2

Check for a stuck relay

With the oven turned off but power connected, carefully check if either the bake or broil element is warm or glowing. A warm element with the oven off confirms a stuck-closed relay.

Be very careful — a stuck relay means the element could be energized. Do not touch the element directly.

3

Replace the control board

If the relay has failed, the entire control board must be replaced (relays are soldered to the board). Unplug the range, remove the back panel of the control console, disconnect all wiring (photograph each connector first), remove the old board, and install the new one.

Some aftermarket boards come with instructions for transferring any model-specific overlay or configuration.

When to call a professional

Control board replacement on an oven involves working with high-voltage wiring (240V). If you are not experienced with electrical work, have a certified technician handle the replacement.
