Haier Oven Error Code F3 — Open Oven Temperature Sensor
What this means
Error code F3 on Haier ovens indicates the oven temperature sensor (RTD probe) circuit is electrically open. The control board cannot read the oven temperature, so it shuts down the heating elements as a safety precaution. Causes include a failed sensor probe, a disconnected sensor wire harness at the back of the oven, a broken wire inside the harness (often from heat damage), or a corroded connector. The oven will not heat until this fault is resolved.
Step-by-step fix
3 stepsCheck the sensor wire connection
Unplug the range. Pull it away from the wall. Locate where the oven sensor wires connect to the wire harness at the back of the oven. Disconnect and reconnect the plug firmly. Corroded or loose connectors are a common cause of F3.
Heat cycling causes connectors to expand and contract, gradually loosening the connection over years of use.
Test the oven temperature sensor
Disconnect the sensor wire plug. Measure resistance across the two sensor leads with a multimeter. At room temperature, expect approximately 1,080–1,100 ohms. An OL (open) reading confirms the sensor has failed.
You can also test at the control board end of the harness to rule out a broken wire in the harness itself.
Replace the sensor if faulty
Remove the two screws that hold the sensor probe inside the oven (accessible from the back wall of the oven cavity). Pull the old sensor out, insert the new one, secure with screws, and reconnect the harness.
Do not let the sensor touch the oven wall or any racks — it should protrude into the oven cavity for accurate air temperature reading.
When to call a professional
If the sensor and wiring test good but F3 persists, the control board's sensor input circuit may be damaged. A technician should evaluate the board.
