Haier Dryer Error Code E03 — Motor Fault
What this means
Error code E03 on Haier dryers indicates the drum drive motor has malfunctioned. The control board attempted to start the motor but did not detect proper rotation or current draw. Causes include a seized motor, a broken drive belt preventing drum rotation, an overloaded drum, a failed motor start capacitor, or a tripped motor thermal overload. On Haier dryers with a belt-driven system, a broken belt means the motor spins freely but the drum does not turn, which the control detects as an abnormal condition.
Alternate codes: Err3, E3
Step-by-step fix
4 stepsReduce the load
If the drum is overloaded, the motor may not have enough torque to start. Remove some items and try again.
The drum should be about 3/4 full at most to allow proper tumbling and airflow.
Check the drive belt
Unplug the dryer. Open the top panel or remove the front panel (model dependent). Check if the drive belt is intact and properly wrapped around the drum, motor pulley, and idler pulley. A broken belt is the most common cause of E03.
Try spinning the drum by hand — if it spins very freely with no resistance, the belt is likely broken.
Test the motor
If the belt is good, disconnect the motor wires and test the windings with a multimeter. Test for continuity across the run winding terminals and start winding terminals. Also test each terminal to the motor housing for ground faults (should read OL).
If the motor is hot to the touch, the thermal overload may have tripped. Let it cool for 30 minutes and try again.
Replace the belt or motor as needed
For belt replacement: thread the new belt around the drum, route it around the idler pulley and motor pulley in a zigzag pattern. For motor replacement: remove mounting bolts, transfer the blower wheel to the new motor, and reinstall.
When replacing the belt, take a photo of the routing before removing the old one — Haier belt paths can be tricky.
When to call a professional
Motor replacement requires handling the blower wheel and proper belt routing. If you are not confident in mechanical disassembly, a professional can complete this efficiently.
