EF0

GE Washer Error Code EF0 — Unbalanced Load

Easy Fix 5–10 minutes No tools needed

What this means

The EF0 error code on GE washers indicates the control board has detected an unbalanced load during the spin cycle. The washer stops spinning to prevent excessive vibration that could damage the machine or surrounding structures. This is common with single heavy items like comforters, rugs, or jeans bunched on one side of the drum.

Step-by-step fix

3 steps
1

Redistribute the load

Open the washer door and rearrange the clothes evenly around the drum. If washing a single heavy item, add a few towels to balance the load.

Washing one large item alone (like a comforter) almost always triggers an unbalanced load error.

2

Restart the spin cycle

Close the door and press Start to resume the spin cycle. The washer will attempt to balance the load again.

3

Check washer leveling

If the EF0 code occurs frequently with normal loads, check that the washer is level. Use a bubble level on top of the machine and adjust the leveling feet as needed.

All four feet must be firmly on the floor with no rocking.

When to call a professional

If the washer shows EF0 on every load regardless of size or balance, the suspension springs, shock absorbers, or balance ring may be worn. Have a technician inspect.
