E2

GE Washer Error Code E2 — Drain Error

Moderate Fix 20–40 minutes Tools: Towels, Shallow pan

What this means

The E2 error on GE washers means the drain pump was unable to empty the tub within the allotted time. Standing water remains in the drum. This is usually caused by a clogged drain filter, kinked drain hose, or blocked drain pump.

Step-by-step fix

3 steps
1

Clean the drain pump filter

Locate the drain pump filter access (lower front of machine). Place towels and a pan below. Slowly open and drain water. Remove the filter and clear debris.

Clean this filter monthly to prevent drainage issues.

2

Check the drain hose

Inspect the drain hose for kinks or blockages. Make sure it's not pushed more than 8 inches into the standpipe.

The drain hose should be between 30–96 inches above the floor at the connection point.

3

Test the drain pump

Run a drain cycle and listen. Humming but no water flow = pump jammed. No sound = pump motor failed.

A coin or small object can jam the pump impeller.

When to call a professional

If the drain pump motor has failed, it needs replacement.
