GE Refrigerator Display Code tF — Turbo Freeze Activated
What this means
The tF display code on GE refrigerators is not an error code — it indicates the Turbo Freeze feature has been activated. Turbo Freeze runs the compressor at maximum capacity and directs extra cold air to the freezer compartment to rapidly freeze new items. This is useful when adding a large amount of unfrozen food to the freezer. The feature runs for approximately 8 hours and then returns to normal operation.
Step-by-step fix
3 stepsRecognize the status display
The tF code is normal operation, not a malfunction. It means the Turbo Freeze button was pressed on the control panel. The freezer is intentionally running colder than usual to freeze food quickly.
On some GE displays, tF can look like EF or an upside-down F with an F. This is still the Turbo Freeze indicator.
Deactivate Turbo Freeze if desired
Press the Turbo Freeze button on the control panel again to turn it off. The display will return to showing the set temperature, and the freezer will resume its normal cycle.
Turbo Freeze automatically deactivates after approximately 8 hours, so you can also just leave it.
Verify the temperature setting
After Turbo Freeze turns off, confirm the freezer is set to 0 degrees Fahrenheit. Press the temperature adjustment buttons if needed to restore your preferred setting.
If the display remains stuck on tF after pressing the button, unplug the refrigerator for 30 seconds to reset the control panel.
When to call a professional
If the tF display cannot be cleared by pressing the Turbo Freeze button and persists after a power reset, the user interface board may be faulty and should be inspected by a technician.
