Step-by-step fix
4 stepsAllow the oven to cool
If this error occurred during or after self-clean, allow the oven to cool completely to room temperature. The door lock won't release while the oven is hot.
Self-clean cycles reach 800–900°F — it can take 1–2 hours to cool down enough for the lock to release.
Power cycle the oven
Turn off the circuit breaker for 5 minutes, then restore power. The lock motor may reset and retract.
Sometimes cycling the breaker 2–3 times with 1-minute intervals helps the motor reset.
Manually release the door lock
If the door remains locked, remove the back panel and locate the door lock motor assembly at the top of the oven frame. Some models have a manual release lever.
The lock mechanism may be jammed with self-clean residue — cleaning it can restore function.
Replace the door lock motor assembly
If the lock motor has failed, remove the old assembly and install the replacement. Reconnect the wiring harness.
Test the new lock motor by running a short self-clean cycle before closing up the oven.
When to call a professional
If you cannot release the door lock manually, or if the lock motor replacement doesn't resolve the error.
