Frigidaire Dryer Error Code E5B — Inlet Thermistor Open

Moderate Repair 20–35 minutes Tools: Phillips screwdriver, Multimeter, 1/4-inch nut driver

What this means

The E5B error on Frigidaire dryers indicates the inlet thermistor — which measures the air temperature entering the drum — has an open circuit (infinite resistance). The control board cannot regulate heat without this reading. The dryer may refuse to start a heated cycle.

Alternate codes: E5b

Step-by-step fix

3 steps
1

Locate the inlet thermistor

Unplug the dryer. The inlet thermistor is typically mounted near the heating element housing or on the drum inlet duct. Remove the back panel or front lower panel to access it.

On Frigidaire front-load dryers, the inlet thermistor is near the heater assembly on the back panel.

2

Test the thermistor

Disconnect the thermistor wires and measure resistance. At room temperature, it should read approximately 10,000–12,000 ohms. An infinite (OL) reading means the sensor element is broken.

Also check the wire connections for corrosion or a pulled-out terminal.

3

Replace the thermistor

If the thermistor reads open, remove the mounting clip or screw, install the new thermistor, and reconnect the wires. Reassemble the panels and test.

Thermistors are inexpensive parts. If the reading is borderline, replace proactively.

When to call a professional

If the thermistor tests within range and wiring is intact but the error persists, the electronic control board sensor circuit may be faulty.
