F1

Fisher & Paykel Oven Error Code F1 — Oven Temperature Sensor Open Circuit

Moderate Repair 20–40 minutes Tools: Phillips screwdriver, Multimeter, Nut driver (1/4 inch)

What this means

Error code F1 on Fisher & Paykel ovens and ranges indicates the oven temperature sensor (RTD probe) has an open circuit. This platinum resistance sensor monitors the oven cavity temperature and provides precise readings to the control board. An open circuit means the sensor wire has broken internally, the sensor connector is loose, or the wiring between the sensor and control board is damaged. Without a functioning sensor, the oven cannot regulate temperature and will not operate.

Alternate codes: Error F1, Fault F1

Step-by-step fix

4 steps
1

Reset the oven

Turn off the oven at the circuit breaker for 2 minutes. Restore power and try to set a temperature. If F1 clears, it may have been a temporary glitch from a power fluctuation.

Fisher & Paykel ovens will display F1 immediately on startup if the sensor circuit is open — you will know right away if the reset worked.

2

Test the oven temperature sensor

Turn off power at the breaker. Open the oven and locate the temperature sensor — it is a thin metal probe extending into the oven cavity, usually mounted in the upper rear wall. Disconnect the sensor wires from the control board (access varies by model). Measure resistance across the sensor leads — at room temperature (77°F / 25°C), it should read approximately 1,100 ohms for an RTD sensor.

Fisher & Paykel uses a standard 1,100-ohm RTD sensor in most ovens. If your reading is significantly different or infinite, the sensor is faulty.

3

Check the sensor wiring

If the sensor itself reads correctly, the problem is in the wiring between the sensor and the control board. Trace the wires and inspect for damage — particularly where the wires pass through the oven cavity wall, as high heat can degrade insulation over time.

The wire connector at the control board end is a common failure point. Check that pins are not corroded or pulled out from the connector housing.

4

Replace the sensor

If the sensor reads open circuit, remove it by unscrewing its mounting bracket (usually one or two screws from inside the oven cavity). Pull the probe and wire through the back wall. Install the new sensor in reverse order, ensuring the probe extends into the cavity and the bracket is secure.

The sensor probe must not touch any oven racks or walls inside the cavity — reposition it if needed after installation.

When to call a professional

If the sensor and wiring test fine but F1 persists, the control board input circuit may be damaged. An oven control board replacement should be done by a qualified technician.
