Fisher & Paykel DishDrawer Error Code A7 — Motor / Wash Fault

Advanced Repair 40–75 minutes Tools: Torx T15 screwdriver, Phillips screwdriver, Multimeter, Flashlight

What this means

Error code A7 on Fisher & Paykel DishDrawer dishwashers indicates the wash motor is not performing as expected. The motor may have stalled, is running below speed, or is drawing excessive current. Common causes include debris jamming the wash impeller, a worn motor bearing, a faulty motor winding, or a control board issue with the motor drive circuit. The DishDrawer may stop mid-cycle or fail to start the wash phase.

Alternate codes: Alert 7, Error A7

Step-by-step fix

4 steps
1

Clear the wash impeller

Open the drawer, remove the racks, spray arms, and filter assembly. Check the wash impeller area for any debris — broken glass, bones, food particles, or foreign objects can jam the impeller and stall the motor. Remove any obstructions and reassemble.

A common culprit is a small piece of broken glass wedged between the impeller and the sump housing. Use a flashlight to inspect thoroughly.

2

Power reset and test

After clearing debris, turn power off at the breaker for 2 minutes. Restore power and run a rinse cycle. Listen for the motor starting — it should produce a steady humming sound, and you should hear water circulating within 30 seconds.

If the motor tries to start but produces a strained buzzing sound before the code reappears, the motor bearings may be seized.

3

Test the wash motor electrically

Disconnect power. Access the wash motor from the base of the unit. Disconnect the motor wiring and test the windings with a multimeter. A healthy motor should read between 3 and 15 ohms across its terminals. Also test between each terminal and the motor housing — any continuity indicates a ground fault.

Fisher & Paykel DishDrawer wash motors are compact brushless DC motors. Their resistance values differ from conventional dishwasher motors.

4

Replace the wash motor

If the motor fails electrical testing or the bearings are seized, replace the wash motor assembly. Disconnect all hoses and wiring, remove the mounting bolts, and swap in the new motor. Ensure all seals are properly seated to prevent leaks.

When installing the new motor, hand-spin the impeller to confirm it rotates freely before reconnecting everything.

When to call a professional

If the motor tests fine electrically but A7 persists, the motor drive circuit on the control board may be at fault. This requires board-level diagnosis by a qualified Fisher & Paykel technician.
