Fisher & Paykel DishDrawer Error Code A1 — Not Filling With Water
What this means
Error code A1 on Fisher & Paykel DishDrawer dishwashers indicates the unit has failed to fill with water within the expected time. The pressure sensor has not detected a sufficient rise in water level after the fill valve was opened. Common causes include a closed or partially closed water supply tap, a kinked inlet hose, a blocked inlet filter screen, a faulty water inlet valve solenoid, or low household water pressure. This is one of the most frequently encountered DishDrawer error codes and is often resolved with simple checks.

Step-by-step fix
4 stepsCheck the water supply tap
Locate the water supply valve under the sink that feeds the DishDrawer. Ensure it is fully open — turn it counterclockwise as far as it will go. If the tap was recently turned off for maintenance, this is the most likely cause.
On some installations, the DishDrawer shares a water supply with the kitchen sink cold tap via a tee fitting. Make sure the tee valve is open.
Clean the inlet hose filter screen
Turn off the water supply. Disconnect the inlet hose from the back of the DishDrawer (have a bucket ready for residual water). Remove the small mesh filter screen inside the inlet fitting. Clean it thoroughly with a small brush under running water to remove any sediment or mineral buildup. Reinstall the screen and reconnect the hose.
In areas with hard water, this filter can clog within 6–12 months. Make it part of your regular maintenance routine.
Inspect the inlet hose for kinks
Pull the DishDrawer out slightly to inspect the full length of the water inlet hose. Ensure there are no kinks, sharp bends, or pinch points. The hose should make smooth, gradual curves. Replace the hose if it is kinked permanently.
DishDrawers that are pushed too far back into the cabinetry can pinch the inlet hose against the wall — leave at least 2 inches of clearance.
Verify water pressure
If the above steps do not resolve the issue, check your household water pressure. Fisher & Paykel DishDrawers require a minimum of 3 PSI (20 kPa) to fill correctly. Test by disconnecting the inlet hose at the DishDrawer and running water into a bucket — a strong, steady flow indicates adequate pressure.
If multiple appliances are running simultaneously (washing machine, sprinklers), water pressure may drop below the minimum required for the DishDrawer.
When to call a professional
If water pressure is adequate and the inlet path is clear but the DishDrawer still will not fill, the water inlet valve solenoid may have failed electronically. This requires a technician to diagnose and replace.
