SH

Electrolux Refrigerator Error Code SH — Sensor Shorted (High Temperature)

Moderate 20–40 minutes Tools: Phillips screwdriver, Nut driver (1/4 inch), Multimeter

What this means

The SH error code on Electrolux refrigerators indicates one of the temperature sensors (thermistors) has a shorted circuit condition. The sensor is sending a reading that is either impossibly high or impossibly low, indicating a hardware failure in the sensor itself or its wiring. Without accurate temperature readings, the refrigerator cannot regulate cooling properly. The affected compartment (fridge or freezer) may overcool or not cool at all.

Alternate codes: Sh, SH error

Step-by-step fix

4 steps
1

Identify which sensor

Note where the SH code appears. Some models indicate which sensor has failed (fresh food vs. freezer). If your model doesn't specify, you'll need to test each sensor. Common locations: fresh food compartment (back wall), freezer compartment (back wall), evaporator coils.

Check the user manual or service manual for your specific model's sensor locations.

2

Test the sensor resistance

Disconnect the sensor and measure its resistance with a multimeter. A typical thermistor should read approximately 10,000–16,000 ohms at room temperature (70°F). At freezer temperature (0°F), it should read approximately 45,000–55,000 ohms. A shorted sensor will read near 0 ohms.

If you get a very low reading (under 100 ohms), the sensor is shorted. If OL, it's open.

3

Check the wiring

If the sensor itself tests fine, check the wiring between the sensor and the control board. A pinched or damaged wire can create a short circuit that mimics a sensor failure.

Look for places where wiring passes through tight spaces or near sharp edges.

4

Replace the faulty sensor

If the sensor has a shorted reading, replace it with the correct replacement part. Install the new sensor in the same position and route the wiring the same way. Power cycle the refrigerator to clear the code.

Temperature sensors are typically inexpensive and easy to replace — when in doubt, replace it.

When to call a professional

If all sensors and wiring test fine, the control board's sensor input circuit may have failed. A technician can test the board.
