F9

Electrolux Oven Error Code F9 — Door Lock Failure

Moderate 25–50 minutes Tools: Phillips screwdriver, Multimeter, Nut driver

What this means

The F9 error code on Electrolux ovens indicates the door lock motor or switch has failed during a self-cleaning cycle. The oven door lock is a safety feature that keeps the door locked during the extremely high temperatures of self-clean (up to 900°F). If the lock cannot engage or disengage, or if the lock position switches cannot confirm the lock state, the oven displays F9 and stops the self-clean cycle.

Alternate codes: F 9, F09

Step-by-step fix

4 steps
1

Allow the oven to cool

If the oven was in self-clean mode, wait until the oven has completely cooled (below 550°F / 288°C). The door lock will not release until the temperature is safe. This can take 1–2 hours.

Do not attempt to force the door open if it is locked during cool-down — the latch can be damaged.

2

Reset the oven

Turn off the circuit breaker for 5 minutes, then turn it back on. Sometimes the lock motor needs a full power reset to retract. After resetting, the lock should release and the door should open.

If the door is stuck locked after a power cycle, the lock motor may need to be manually disengaged from behind the control panel.

3

Test the door lock assembly

Access the door lock motor assembly behind the front control panel or at the top of the oven cavity. Test the lock motor for continuity. Also check the two lock position switches — they should toggle between open and closed as the lock moves.

The lock assembly has both a motor and position switches. If either fails, the whole assembly is typically replaced.

4

Replace the lock assembly if faulty

If the lock motor has no continuity or the switches don't function properly, replace the entire door lock assembly. Reconnect all wiring and run a self-clean cycle to verify.

After replacing, start a self-clean cycle and verify the door locks within the first few minutes, then cancel the cycle to avoid unnecessary wear.

When to call a professional

If the lock assembly is fine but F9 persists, the control board may not be driving the lock motor properly. A technician can test the board output.
