Electrolux Microwave Error Code SE — Sensor/Keypad Error
What this means
The SE error code on Electrolux microwaves indicates the control board is detecting a continuously pressed key on the touchpad or a sensor input that is out of range. This can be caused by a faulty membrane touchpad, moisture behind the touchpad, a stuck button, or a failed control board. The microwave may not respond to button presses or may beep continuously.
Alternate codes: S E, SE error
Step-by-step fix
4 stepsReset the microwave
Unplug the microwave or turn off its circuit breaker for 3 minutes. Plug it back in. If the SE code was caused by a power glitch or temporary touchpad issue, it may clear.
For built-in or over-the-range models, the breaker is the easiest way to reset.
Check for stuck buttons
Press each button on the touchpad and make sure each one feels normal and springs back when released. Clean the touchpad surface with a slightly damp cloth to remove any residue that might be causing false presses.
Steam and grease from cooking below (especially on over-the-range models) can seep behind the touchpad.
Disconnect the touchpad ribbon cable
If the code persists after cleaning, remove the outer cover to access the control board. Disconnect the touchpad ribbon cable from the board. If the SE code clears, the touchpad is faulty. If it remains, the board is the issue.
CAUTION: Microwave capacitors can hold a lethal charge. If you are not experienced, do NOT open the microwave — call a professional.
Replace the faulty component
Replace the touchpad/membrane switch or the control board based on the diagnostic from the previous step.
On many Electrolux microwaves, the touchpad is a separate part from the control board and is less expensive.
When to call a professional
Microwave repair involves a high-voltage capacitor that can hold a lethal charge even when unplugged. Unless you are experienced with microwave repair, call a professional.
