Dacor Refrigerator Error Code Er FF — Freezer Fan Motor Fault
What this means
Error code Er FF on Dacor refrigerators indicates the freezer evaporator fan motor has failed to operate. This fan is responsible for circulating cold air from the evaporator coils throughout both the freezer and refrigerator compartments. Without this fan, the freezer may remain cold near the evaporator but the refrigerator compartment will warm significantly. Causes include ice accumulation around the fan, a seized fan motor bearing, a broken fan blade, a disconnected wire, or a failed motor winding.
Alternate codes: Er-FF, Error FF, FF error
Step-by-step fix
4 stepsListen for the fan
Open the freezer door and press the door switch to simulate a closed door. Listen for the evaporator fan — it should produce a low humming sound. If you hear nothing, grinding, or clicking, the fan has a problem.
On Dacor refrigerators, the fan stops when the door is opened. You must hold the door switch to hear it run.
Check for ice around the fan
Unplug the refrigerator. Remove the back panel inside the freezer to access the evaporator and fan. If ice has built up around the fan blade, carefully melt it with a hair dryer. Once cleared, try spinning the fan by hand — it should rotate freely.
Heavy ice around the evaporator fan often indicates a defrost problem as well. Check for error codes Er dH in combination with Er FF.
Test the fan motor
Disconnect the fan motor wiring and test resistance — a working motor typically reads 100–500 ohms. Also verify the fan blade is not cracked or broken. A missing blade piece can cause motor imbalance and failure.
Dacor uses Samsung-sourced fan motors. Samsung replacement parts are often interchangeable and more readily available.
Replace the fan motor
If the motor is faulty, remove it from the bracket, transfer the fan blade to the new motor (note the blade orientation), install the new motor, and reconnect wiring. Reassemble the panel and restore power.
The fan blade must be installed with the correct orientation — blowing air toward the compartments, not toward the evaporator.
When to call a professional
If the fan motor and wiring test fine but Er FF persists, the control board's fan driver may be faulty. Professional diagnostics are recommended.
