Dacor Oven Error Code F9 — Door Lock Mechanism Failure

Moderate Repair 30–60 minutes Tools: Phillips screwdriver, Torx T20 screwdriver, Multimeter

What this means

Error code F9 on Dacor ovens indicates the door lock mechanism has not successfully completed its locking or unlocking operation. The self-clean feature requires the door to be locked before heating to extreme temperatures. If the lock motor cannot drive the latch to the locked position, or the lock position switch does not confirm engagement, F9 is triggered. Causes include a failed lock motor, a misaligned latch, a stuck lock mechanism from food or grease buildup, or a faulty position switch.

Alternate codes: F09, Error F9

Step-by-step fix

4 steps
1

Cancel and reset

Press Cancel to stop the self-clean cycle. Turn off the breaker for 5 minutes. When power is restored, check if the door is unlocked. If the door remains locked, wait for the oven to cool completely — the lock may release automatically once temperature drops.

On some Dacor models, you can unlock a stuck door by pressing and holding the Cancel button for 10 seconds while the oven is cool.

2

Clean the lock mechanism area

Open the oven door and inspect the door latch catch at the top of the oven opening. Clean any food residue or grease from the latch area and the corresponding catch on the door frame. Buildup in this area can prevent the lock from engaging fully.

Use a non-abrasive cleaner and a toothbrush to clean the latch area. Avoid getting liquid inside the lock motor housing.

3

Test the lock motor and switch

Access the lock assembly behind the oven front panel. Disconnect the lock motor wiring and test resistance (typically 500–2000 ohms). Test the lock position switch for continuity in both locked and unlocked positions.

The lock motor on Dacor ovens may run slowly if its internal gears are worn. Listen for grinding or clicking sounds when it operates.

4

Replace the lock assembly

If the motor or switch is faulty, replace the entire door lock assembly. Remove the mounting screws, disconnect the wiring harness, and install the new assembly. Test by initiating a self-clean cycle.

Dacor door lock assemblies are model-specific. Some newer Dacor ovens use Samsung-sourced lock mechanisms — verify the correct part number.

When to call a professional

If the lock assembly is functioning but F9 persists, the control board's lock driver circuit may be at fault. A Dacor authorized technician can run full diagnostics.
