F4

Dacor Oven Error Code F4 — Oven Not Heating / Element Failure

Advanced Repair 30–60 minutes Tools: Phillips screwdriver, Multimeter, Nut driver (1/4 inch)

What this means

Error code F4 on Dacor ovens indicates the oven cavity has not reached the target temperature within the allotted time after the heating element was energized. This can mean the bake or broil element has failed, the element relay on the control board is not closing, there is a wiring fault in the element circuit, or on gas models, the igniter is too weak to open the gas valve. The oven will display F4 and cancel the cooking cycle.

Alternate codes: F04, Error F4

Step-by-step fix

4 steps
1

Reset and observe

Turn off the breaker for 3 minutes and restore power. Set the oven to Bake at 350°F. Observe through the oven window — the bake element (bottom) should begin glowing red within 2–3 minutes. If it does not glow, the element or its circuit has failed.

On Dacor gas ovens, listen for the igniter clicking and watch for the burner flame. A weak igniter will glow orange but not get hot enough to open the gas valve.

2

Test the bake element (electric models)

Turn off power. Access the bake element — it is mounted at the bottom of the oven cavity, held by two screws at the back wall. Pull the element forward enough to access its wire terminals. Disconnect the wires and test resistance — a working element reads between 15 and 50 ohms. No continuity means the element is burned out.

Visually inspect the element for blistering, cracks, or holes. A burned-out element often has a visible break or burn spot.

3

Test the broil element

If Bake works but Broil triggers F4, test the broil element at the top of the oven using the same method. Disconnect its wires and test resistance (same 15–50 ohm range).

Dacor ovens with convection use the broil element for convection heating. A failed broil element will affect both broil and convection modes.

4

Check the gas igniter (gas models)

On Dacor gas ovens, the igniter must draw sufficient current (at least 3.0 amps) to open the safety gas valve. Test the igniter resistance — it should read 50–400 ohms. A higher reading means the igniter is weakening and may not draw enough current to open the valve even though it glows.

A weak igniter will glow for 60+ seconds without the gas igniting. A healthy igniter opens the gas valve within 30–60 seconds.

When to call a professional

If both elements test fine but the oven still does not heat, the control board relay is likely not sending power to the elements. A technician should diagnose the board.
