Bosch Washing Machine Error Code E35 — Door Locked / Will Not Open
What this means
Error E35 indicates the door is locked and cannot be opened. This can happen after a power interruption during a cycle, a faulty door lock actuator, or when water is still in the drum. The safety interlock prevents the door from opening when water is detected or during a spin cycle.
Step-by-step fix
4 stepsWait and retry
After a cycle ends, the door lock takes 1–2 minutes to release. Wait and try again.
The door will not unlock if the drum temperature is above 55°C.
Drain remaining water
If water is still inside, run a drain/spin cycle. The safety lock will not release with water in the drum.
Use the emergency drain hose at the bottom of the machine if cycles won't start.
Power cycle the machine
Unplug for 5 minutes, then plug back in. This resets the lock mechanism.
Use the emergency release
Most Bosch washers have an emergency door release — a pull tab or cable accessible behind the lower kick panel.
Check your owner's manual for the exact location of the emergency release on your model.
When to call a professional
If the door lock mechanism is physically stuck or broken, a technician can safely open the door and replace the lock assembly.
