Bosch Washer Error Code E29 — Water Flow Blocked
What this means
The E29 (or F29) error code on Bosch washing machines indicates that the water pressure or flow rate inside the machine is too low. Unlike E17 (no water intake), E29 specifically means water is entering the machine but the flow sensor detects it is not circulating properly. This can be caused by severely clogged inlet filters, low municipal water pressure, a partially closed tap, or a malfunctioning flow sensor.
Alternate codes: F29
Step-by-step fix
3 stepsVerify water pressure
Turn off the washer and disconnect the water supply hose from the back of the machine. Hold the hose over a bucket and briefly turn on the water tap. Water should flow with strong, steady pressure. If the flow is weak or intermittent, the issue is with your home's water supply, not the washer.
Bosch washers require a minimum water pressure of 1 bar (14.5 psi). Low pressure during peak usage hours is a common cause.
Clean the inlet filters thoroughly
With the supply hose disconnected, locate the mesh filter screens at both ends of the hose and inside the washer's inlet connection. Remove them with pliers, soak in vinegar for 15 minutes to dissolve mineral deposits, then scrub with a small brush and rinse.
In hard water areas, the inlet filters can become 50% blocked within 6 months. Regular cleaning prevents E29 errors.
Check internal hoses and the flow sensor
If external water pressure and filters are fine, unplug the washer and access the internal water path. Inspect the hose from the inlet valve to the soap dispenser and from the dispenser to the tub for kinks or blockages. Locate the flow sensor (a small turbine device on the inlet path) and check that it spins freely.
Blow gently through internal hoses to check for blockages. Any resistance indicates buildup that needs to be flushed.
When to call a professional
If the flow sensor turbine is stuck or the sensor does not register flow even when water passes through, the sensor needs professional replacement. This involves accessing internal plumbing components.
