Bosch Washer Error Code E17 — Water Inlet Issue

Easy Fix 15–30 minutes Tools: Pliers, Small brush, Bucket

What this means

The E17 (or F17) error code on Bosch washing machines indicates a problem with the water supply. The washer is either not receiving water at all or the fill rate is too slow. Common causes include a closed water tap, a kinked supply hose, a clogged inlet filter mesh, low water pressure, or a defective water inlet valve. The machine will timeout and display this error if the drum does not reach the required water level within the expected fill time.

Alternate codes: F17

Step-by-step fix

4 steps
1

Check the water supply tap

Verify that the water faucet connected to the washer is fully open. Turn it off and on again to ensure it is working. Check that other faucets in the house have normal water pressure.

If water pressure throughout the house is low, wait until pressure returns before running the washer.

2

Inspect the water supply hose

Examine the fill hose running from the wall faucet to the back of the washer. Straighten any kinks or bends. Make sure the hose is not crushed behind the machine.

Leave at least 4 inches of space between the washer and the wall to prevent hose kinking.

3

Clean the inlet filter screens

Turn off the water supply and disconnect the fill hose from the washer. Inside the water inlet connection on the washer, you will find a small mesh filter screen. Remove it carefully with pliers, rinse under running water, and use a small brush to clear any sediment or mineral deposits.

Also clean the filter at the faucet end of the hose. Both screens trap sediment that restricts water flow over time.

4

Test the water inlet valve

If the filters are clean and water pressure is good, the inlet valve itself may be faulty. Unplug the washer, access the valve at the back of the machine, and use a multimeter to test the solenoid coils. Each coil should read between 500–1,500 ohms.

A valve that hums but does not open has a stuck plunger and must be replaced — it cannot be repaired.

When to call a professional

If the water supply, hoses, and inlet valve all test good but the E17 error persists, the water level pressure sensor or main control board may be at fault and requires professional diagnosis.
