E03

Bosch Refrigerator Error Code E03 — Temperature-Controlled Drawer Sensor Fault

Moderate Repair 30–60 minutes Tools: Phillips screwdriver, Multimeter, Torx T15 screwdriver

What this means

The E03 error code on Bosch refrigerators indicates a malfunction with the temperature sensor in the adjustable-temperature drawer, often branded as FlexZone, VitaFresh, or Multi-Climate zone. This drawer allows users to set a specific temperature for items like deli meats, beverages, or produce. When the sensor fails, the drawer may not cool to the set temperature or may overcool, and the control panel will display the E03 error. The cause is typically sensor failure or a connection issue between the sensor and the control board.

Alternate codes: E3

Step-by-step fix

4 steps
1

Reset the control panel

Unplug the refrigerator for 30 seconds and then restore power. Check if the E03 error clears. If the drawer was recently adjusted to an extreme setting, return it to the default temperature and see if the error resolves.

Some Bosch models allow you to reset the drawer settings via the control panel. Consult your owner's manual for model-specific reset procedures.

2

Access the drawer temperature sensor

Remove the temperature-controlled drawer by pulling it out fully and lifting it off the rails. Behind or beneath the drawer compartment, locate the temperature sensor. It is usually a small thermistor probe clipped to the drawer housing or air duct, connected by a wire harness running to the main control board.

Some models require removing a small cover plate inside the drawer cavity to access the sensor. Use a Torx T15 screwdriver for these screws.

3

Test the sensor

Disconnect the sensor and measure resistance with a multimeter. At room temperature (25°C/77°F), expect approximately 5,000–10,000 ohms. Compare to the specifications on your model's tech sheet. An open circuit, short, or significant deviation from spec indicates failure.

If you do not have the tech sheet, check behind the kick plate at the bottom of the refrigerator or behind the fresh food compartment — it is often taped there.

4

Replace the sensor

Remove the faulty sensor from its clip or bracket. Install the replacement sensor in the exact same position, connect the wire harness, and reinstall the drawer. Restore power and set the drawer to the desired temperature.

After replacement, allow 6–8 hours for the drawer to reach and stabilize at the set temperature before storing temperature-sensitive items.

When to call a professional

If the sensor tests normal but the E03 error persists or the drawer does not cool, the electronic damper controlling airflow to the drawer or the main control board may be faulty. These components require specialized diagnosis.
