E03

Bosch Dryer Error Code E03 — Overloaded Drum or Vent Blockage

Easy Fix 10–30 minutes Tools: Vacuum with crevice tool, Dryer vent brush

What this means

The E03 error code on Bosch dryers indicates that the load is too large for the drum capacity or the exhaust duct is significantly blocked, causing the dryer to overheat or the motor to overwork. This error can also appear if the moisture sensors detect that clothes are not drying within the expected time because hot, moist air cannot escape through a blocked vent. The dryer stops the cycle to protect itself from overheating or motor burnout.

Alternate codes: E:03

Step-by-step fix

4 steps
1

Reduce the load size

Open the dryer and remove approximately one-third of the laundry. The drum should be no more than three-quarters full. Oversized loads restrict airflow inside the drum and prevent clothes from tumbling freely, which dramatically increases drying time.

A good rule: clothes should tumble and rotate freely when the drum spins. If they stay matted against the drum wall, the load is too large.

2

Clean the lint filter and vent

Remove and clean the lint filter. Then disconnect the exhaust duct from the dryer and use a vent brush or vacuum to clean the entire vent run from the dryer to the exterior hood.

Dryer vent fires cause an estimated 2,900 house fires per year. Clean the full vent run at least once annually.

3

Check for duct restrictions

Inspect the exhaust duct for crushing, kinking, or excessive use of 90-degree elbows. Each elbow reduces effective vent capacity by about 5 feet. Ensure the duct is as short and straight as possible.

Replace any foil transition duct with rigid aluminum. Flexible foil traps lint in its ridges and restricts airflow significantly.

4

Reset and run a test load

Reconnect the duct, restart the dryer with a smaller load, and run a normal cycle. If the E03 error does not return and clothes dry within the expected time, the issue is resolved.

If you regularly dry large bedding items like comforters, use the extra-large capacity or bedding cycle if your model offers one.

When to call a professional

If reducing the load and cleaning the vent does not resolve the E03 error, the blower fan may be damaged or the drive motor may be failing. These internal components require professional service.
