Bosch Dishwasher Error Code E14 — Flow Meter Failure

Moderate Repair 30–60 minutes Tools: Torx T20 screwdriver, Multimeter, Pliers, Towels

What this means

The E14 error code on Bosch dishwashers indicates a flow meter failure. The flow meter is a small turbine sensor that measures the volume of water flowing into the dishwasher. When it fails or its signal is disrupted, the control board cannot confirm that the correct amount of water has entered the machine and will halt the cycle. Causes include a faulty flow meter sensor, a clogged water inlet filter, a defective water inlet valve, or low water pressure.

Step-by-step fix

4 steps
1

Verify the water supply

Make sure the water supply valve under the sink is fully open. Check that the supply line to the dishwasher is not kinked or damaged. Run the kitchen faucet to confirm normal water pressure in the house.

If you recently had plumbing work done, debris from pipe work can clog the dishwasher inlet screen.

2

Clean the inlet screen filter

Turn off the water supply. Disconnect the water supply line from the dishwasher's inlet valve (usually located at the bottom-left of the machine behind the kick plate). Remove the small mesh filter screen inside the valve inlet and clean it under running water.

Hold the filter up to a light. Even partial blockage can reduce flow enough to trigger the E14 error.

3

Test the flow meter

Access the flow meter, which is typically located on the water inlet path inside the dishwasher base. Disconnect the electrical connector and use a multimeter to check for proper resistance. Also spin the turbine by hand — it should rotate freely without sticking.

A stuck turbine is often caused by mineral scale buildup. Soak the flow meter in white vinegar for 30 minutes to dissolve deposits.

4

Replace the flow meter if faulty

If the flow meter does not produce a signal or the turbine is damaged, remove it from the water path (typically held by a clip or retainer ring), disconnect the wire connector, and install a new flow meter. Restore the water supply, reconnect power, and run a test cycle.

After replacing the flow meter, run a quick wash cycle empty to verify the dishwasher fills and drains correctly before loading dishes.

When to call a professional

If the flow meter, water supply, and inlet valve all appear functional but the E14 error persists, the main control board may not be reading the flow meter signal correctly and needs professional electronic diagnosis.
