Amana Washer Error Code Ld — Long Drain
What this means
The Ld error code on Amana top-load washers means the machine is unable to drain within the allotted time. This is functionally similar to F9 E1 on front-load models. Common causes include a clogged drain hose, blocked pump filter, faulty drain pump, or a drain standpipe issue.
Alternate codes: LD, Ld
Step-by-step fix
4 stepsCheck the drain hose for kinks
Pull the washer forward and inspect the drain hose from the back of the machine to the standpipe or laundry sink. Straighten any kinks or bends.
Ensure the hose is not inserted more than 8 inches into the standpipe.
Check for a clogged standpipe
Remove the drain hose from the standpipe and run water down it. If it drains slowly, the plumbing itself is clogged and needs to be snaked.
Inspect the drain pump
Unplug the washer and tilt it back to access the drain pump from below, or remove the front/rear panel. Check the pump for foreign objects (coins, bobby pins, small socks) and verify the impeller turns freely.
Small items can get sucked into the pump and jam the impeller.
Replace the drain pump if needed
If the impeller is broken or the motor won't run, replace the pump assembly. Disconnect hoses and wiring, remove mounting hardware, and install the new pump.
After replacing, run a drain/spin cycle to verify proper operation.
When to call a professional
If the pump and drain system are clear and the code persists, the control board may need professional diagnosis.
