Amana Dryer Error Code L2 — Low or No Line Voltage
What this means
The L2 error code on Amana electric dryers means the unit is only receiving 120V instead of the required 240V. One leg of the 240V power supply has been lost, usually due to a tripped breaker (only one pole), a blown fuse in the house panel, a loose connection at the outlet or terminal block, or a faulty power cord. The dryer will tumble but not heat.
Alternate codes: L2E
Step-by-step fix
4 stepsCheck the circuit breaker
Go to your electrical panel and find the dryer breaker. It should be a double (tandem) breaker. Turn it fully OFF, then back ON. If one side had tripped, this resets both.
A double breaker can trip on one pole while the other stays on — the dryer gets 120V but no heat.
Test the wall outlet voltage
Use a multimeter set to AC voltage to test the dryer outlet. You should read approximately 240V between the two hot terminals and 120V from each hot terminal to the neutral.
If you read 120V between the hot terminals, one leg of power is missing.
Check the dryer power cord
Unplug the dryer and inspect the power cord prongs for damage, scorching, or loose fit. On the dryer end, remove the terminal block cover and check that the cord wires are tight on the terminal block.
A loose terminal connection can arc, causing heat damage and intermittent power loss.
Test after fixing
After addressing the power issue, restart the dryer and verify it heats properly. The L2 code should clear once full 240V is restored.
When to call a professional
If the breaker keeps tripping or the outlet voltage is low, call a licensed electrician. There may be a wiring fault in the house circuit.
